Pond de-silting and pump maintenance

Maintenance of the waterways in the Cascades is a key responsibility of the Home Owners’ Association, and essential to the the flow of water in the pond system we all enjoy. Periodic de-silting is an important part of this maintenance, ensuring the correct operation and prolonging life of the supporting pump installed in the lower pond.

As of late May 2020, water flow in the creek system became severely blocked, affecting the pump operation the water feature — and risking permanent damage to the pump itself. The bottom pond was emptied and a build-up of silt and weeds was identified as the cause of the problem.

The lower pond has remained empty to facilitate weed treatment, and de-silting was conducted 12th June, removing several truck-loads of silt. It is hoped that rainfall will help flush more of the remaining silt, and while levels are monitored the pond will not be refilled. Maintenance work on the pump itself will be undertaken in July/August 2020, and further de-silting in the summer of 2020-21 is likely required.

The HOA appreciates your patience as we work to restore the operation of our water feature.
